Stephanie Berger was a student in the Robinson College of Business getting her MS in Information Systems when she was awarded a Boren Fellowship in 2016 to study Russian and Information Systems in Minsk, Belarus. Stephanie was the first GSU student to ever be awarded the Boren Fellowship (as opposed to the Boren Scholarship which is for undergraduates).
While abroad, Stephanie studied Russian language three hours a day with a group of other international students from China, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and Poland.
Outside of class she conducted research for her master’s thesis in which she explored how different people work together when designing information systems that simplify the exchange of documentation during import and export processes. She described it as an insightful experience, giving her a better understanding of current developments in international trade in Belarus, while also allowing her to expand her professional vocabulary in Russian and become familiar with academic research processes in Belarus.
